A/Prof. Fernando Guimaraes

Associate Professor Fernando Guimaraes is an internationally recognised immunologist and will provide expertise in immunology. A/Prof. Guimaraes has 95+ publications (h-index: 39, citations: 6,000+; Google Scholar 3/2024) in top 1% journals (e.g., Nature Immunology, Scopus 3/2024). A/Prof. Guimaraes has expertise in the areas of cancer research, immunology, inflammation, and immunotherapy. He has laid a strong foundation in the field of innate immunity in response to inflammation in animal models and has been successful in attracting peer-reviewed funding as AI including an NHMRC ECF Fellowship, an NHMRC Project Grant, a National Breast Cancer Foundation Fellowship, three Cure Cancer Australia (CCA) PdCCRS Project Grants, a US DoD Breast Cancer Breakthrough Award, and a MRFF EMCR grant. He was also awarded with a 2019 Researcher of the Year by CCA, a 2020 QLD Young Tall Poppy Science Award, a 2020 Institutional Rising Star Award, a 2022 American Association of Immunology - Minority Award, and a 2022 Frazer Institute Mentorship Award. A/Prof. Guimaraes work in the identification of new regulators of optimal in vivo immune cell function has earned him peer recognition as a leader in this field. his current projects as a group leader at The University of Queensland - Frazer Institute aim to identify by multi-omics approaches and translate the role of immune cells and develop novel immunotherapy approaches for different diseases.
